What Other Photo Could There Be, Darlings??????????
As I mentioned days earlier, this is Musical Theater Week, and today happens to be the birthday of whom I consider, and will always, "The Greatest Show Stopper In Broadway History." I am talking about none other than Donna McKechnie, whose iconic photo, seen above, defines both dance and show stopping for many.
According to varying calculations, Donna is anywhere from 68 to 72 today. And she is still out there, performing, giving new generations the benefit of her wisdom and experience. And I am sure, at any given moment, if a crisis arises during ANY production of "A Chorus Line," Donna, like any other Original Cast Alum, can be easily accessed by Baayork, and step into the role she first performed back in 1975!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The best way to honor Donna on her birthday is to DANCE!!!!!!!!! Anywhere, anytime, anyhow!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I may even do "The Music And The Mirror" at 3PM this afternoon. Or maybe at home, for Monsieur, after work! It would be a big change from BARBRA!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So, a happy birthday to Donna McKechnie, who will always reign in my heart as the Greatest. Still unequaled by anyone I have seen dance on the New York stage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Happy Birthday, and many dance steps more, Donna!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
