Musical Theater Week Is Coming, Girls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
With all this show talk, darlings, I just realized that one of my favorite times of the year, Musical Theater Week, commences this week, beginning on Wednesday, the 13th, and running through Monday, the 18th. This is a period of time, in which so many Legends Of The Musical Stage were born, some even connected to the same show. For example--
November 13--Sammy Williams (the original
Paul San Marco in "A Chorus Line")
November 16--Donna McKechnie (the original
Cassie in "A Chorus Line", and the greatest show stopper
in Boradway history!!!!!!)
Martha Plimpton ( a star in her
own right, and the daughter of Shelley Plimpton, the
original Crissy, in "HAIR," who introduced my favorite
song from that show, "Frank Mills)
November 17--Neva Small (the goddaughter
of Leonard Bernstein, who became a Legend Of The
Musical Stage the night of October 23, 1967, when she
introduced the song "I Wonder How It Is," in "Henry,
Sweet Henry," at the tender age of 14, not to mention
playing Chava, under Norman Jewison's direction, in
the 1971 film version of the Broadway musical,
"Fiddler On The Roof!")
And Then--
November 18--Dorothy Collins (the original
Sally Durant Plummer in Stephen Sondheim's landmark
1971 musical, "Follies." Need I say more????)
Yours Truly--waiting to
originate something, ANYTHING, as well as playing
in revivals of "Funny Girl" (Fanny Brice), "Gypsy"
(Mama Rose), and Nurse Fay Apple in "Anyone
Can Whistle")!!!!! Just you wait, darlings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So, it should be quite a week! No, that is not me in childhood up there, in that photo, though it very well could have been!!!!!!!!!!
See you soon, on the aisle, at the Rialto, darlings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
