After Tara, Let's Go To Corpsewood, Darlings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Girls, I am telling you, it is fun to visit Tara, romanticize about "Gone With The Wind," and all, even have dinner at "Aunt Pittypat's Porch," but when the night comes, stay out. Remember Little Sister and her gun, in the classic song ("The Nights Went Out In Georgia"), though I just LOVE Little Sister. And how about sick hillbillies corn holing rafters in "Deliverance?"
But nothing is more creep inducing than Corpsewood Manor, where what was a hate crime--and anyone who disagrees with me can get a full dose of my Brandi Beaudry bitchiness--took place, on the evening of December 12, 1982.
This house was off the beaten track, in Summerville, a section of which was called Taylor Ridge. The inhabitants were two gentlemen, Charles Scudder, a former pharmacology professor from Loyola University, and an itinerant drifter with a criminal history, named Joseph Odom. The two built the house, and lived the quiet life, but, even in 1982, when two men take up residence-- today, hell, it would still happen; in Georgia, are you kidding?????--talk gets around that more than house sharing is going on. Which it was, but it was none of anyone's business.
To most of the region's credit, the men were left pretty much, alone. But in November of 1982, come into the region tow lowlifes, Avery Brock and Tony West. They hear all this talk about the men, whom they assume to be "fags," but what is more important, were thought to have a lot of money on their property. So, on the night of December 12, 1982, rather like Dick Hickcock and Perry Smith of "In Cold Blood," the two drive out to rob the place. But things went wrong here, just like "In Cold Blood," there was no money on hand, so, with rage and homophobia, the two gents were murdered. The scum were finally caught and given life terms.
Oh, yes, this was a hate crime. But I want to go out there, at night, and poke around, gets in touch with spirits of the dead men, and, if any homophobes come near me, I will bitch them out!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just think, my own personal Blair Witch Project!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who thought Georgia could be so fun, darlings??????????????????
