Darlings, Can You Believe It???????? The Crust!!!!!!!!!! The Absolute Crust!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Darlings, I have just found out plans are under way--and they are just plans, which means, hopefully they may not materialize--to mount a Broadway stage version of the 1954 Judy Garland classic "A Star Is Born!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Are they kidding??????????????????
The movie's score, by Harold Arlen and Ira Gershwin, will be used, which, I suppose, on some level, we should be thankful for, but who is going to fill the iconic roles once occupied by Judy Garland, James Mason, Jack Carson, and Charles Bickford, among others???????
And who could?????????
I mean, if this had been proposed to Liza Minnelli forty years ago, I could see it, but you know what? Liza has always been show biz savvy; she would have turned it down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who could possibly step into these roles? I could just about accept Jessie Mueller in the Garland role, because she is iconic, herself, but would Jessie do it? Stepping into a Judy Garland role is a thankless job, and I understand "Meet Me In St. Louis" is one of Jessie's favorite movies--as it is one of mine--so would she really be interested??????????????
Let me warn you--I can see that over aged, no talent crustacean named Lea Michele trying to claw her way into the audition room to try to get this role which she probably feels entitled to play. No way, Jose; get lost, Michele!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a disaster waiting to happen. I only hope it doesn't.
And how will Norman Maine's suicide be done? Like "Tosca???????????"
