This Cheapjack Thing Looked Better On Television--Vintage Board Game #17--"Ideal's "Haunted House!!!!!!!!!!"
The Ideal toy company came up with truly interesting concepts for games, but they were always cheaply manufactured, plastic.
One of the earliest, in my memory was their "Haunted House" game. Really, the box it came in made it look more interesting than it actually was.
The game board was basically two dimensional--a plastic house backed up and fastened onto a cardboard base, so it would stand up straight. There were all these holes, which you would stick these plastic screw driver like things into--no, girls, I am not going THERE!!!!!!!--as you moved about the house, in pursuit of the ruby treasure in the attic.
There were these mysterious red doors--behind which there were warnings, or orders to go back several spaces. I cannot recall which. What I can recall is that this game had such potential, but did not really go the extra mile, like "Bats In The Belfry!"
But, when I first got it, I thought it the greatest thing, going!
How tastes and technology change, darlings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
