Now, Here Is An Antidote To "A Little Life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

This novel, by Fiona Davis, is that fun blend of historical fiction and intriguing suspense.  In the past, it details the building and formation of New York's famed Dakota Apartment Building, intermingling the stories of Sara Smythe, the apartment manager, fresh off the boat from England, and Theodore Camden, and his family, who come to play intriguing parts in Sarah's life.  In the present, the late Eighties, we have Bailey and her snobbish cousin, Melinda.  She views Bailey as a distant relation; her father has a grudge against the Camdens, inherited from his father.  Bailey's father, Jack, is white trash, running a car fix-it shop in off season Point Pleasant, New Jersey!!!!!!!!!!!  I mean, oh, my God!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Melinda treats Bailey and Jack as though they are poor, distant, and untitled, relations.  But with the history of Sarah and Theodore Camden colluding in the past, the intervention of reporter Nellie Bly, and things Bailey discovers in storerooms in the present day, she and her father may not be as poor or as distant as they think.

The working out of all this is detailed and absorbing, as are the architectural descriptions of both the inside and outside of the Dakota building, making the reader feel right in the midst of this magnificent dwelling--the only one, by the way, I ever intended to live in, when I moved to New York!!!!!!!!!  Oh, well, that ship has sailed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even if not reading "A Little Life," but simply struggling with a book you simply do not like, "The Address" will do the trick!  Fiona Davis, is bright, clever, and to the point.

I intend to read more of her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
