What a pity that, on what was to be "Sventoonie's" last night, "Svengoolie" had to pull out a real clunker---1966's Japanese "War Of The Gargantuas."
Girls, you have to see the cheesy nightclub scene, where Kipp sings the worst song I have ever heard, with the refrain, "The words get stuck in my throat." Right. Too bad they did not stop the singing. Then she is attacked from behind by a Gragantua, and thrown on the floor. This is how to enhance a career??????????
Poor Kipp; her break came by being the sister of Joe Hamilton, husband of Carol Burnett who made her show into the classic it still is today. Honey, when you have no talent, even your powerhouse sibling can't help you. And where is Kipp today. Probably in some forgotten LA hotel, like the old man in "Hollywoodland." The last, made in 2005, is an underrated film.
As for the Gargantuas, one yellow, the other green, they look like a couple of Marx toys!!!!!!!!!!!!! Remember those, girls?????????? Come to think of it, the "Rock Em Sock Em Robots," came out the same year--1966, so which one influenced the other? I will bet the Japanese film makers were influenced by the Marx creations, and, having the script turned down by every respectable monster out there, created their own, based on Marx!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It did not work. It was crap. And Ishiro Honda directed THIS? I hope he was paid a lot of money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Really, girls, if you missed this, you did yourselves a favor.
But how can we go on, without "Sventoonie??????????????"
I did miss it!! Guess I should be Thankful!!!
