I would not be doing due diligence as a gay man, let alone a Raving Queen, if I did not acknowledge Patti LuPone's birthday. La LuPone is 76 years old and looks and sounds fantastic. She already has an impressive theatrical legacy. And I look forward to what she might do next.
But today, I want Patti to celebrate and enjoy herself. Maybe some Prosecco, ice cream and cake. Sounds good to me.
As she has said, when gay men are in crisis, they call upon Patti.
I have been lucky, thus far, not having to do that.
Happy Birthday, Patti. A true performer, and friend of the LGBTQ community.
We love you, Patti!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a good Patti LuPone story. I think it was about 3 years ago I was the guest of friends on Fire Island, and we all went to the ice palace. It shocked everybody Patti LuPone showed up unannounced and then sang a couple of impromptu songs. There was one drunk in particular that got up and kept tipping her. It was obvious he thought she was a female impersonator .She actually made a joke of all the tips she was getting. It was pretty entertaining. I think at first she was in utter disbelief people were tipping her like a drag queen and couldn't understand what the tips were for until one of the guys explained to her because she was doing so well and that's what we do here. She said your aware Im not a drag queen right? Well she hammed it up and was a good sport...and she later announced she donated all the money to the fire company. About 30 minutes after the show, the Lad , my date, and I were good and tight and were getting frisky, making out and playing slap and tickle. All of a sudden, we heard a woman say ," What is going on over there?" We turned to see it was Patti Lupone herself...on her way out. I replied, "It's what we do here.!" Still can't believe I said that to her but she smile. The best memory of any summer so far, hands down.
ReplyDeleteMistress Maddie,
ReplyDeleteForgive the delay; I have been under the weather due to a respiratory cold, and then allergies. I loved your Patti story, but I will share an embarrassment with you--I have NEVER been to Fire Island. I think I saw "Last Summer" at too young an age and was afraid of ending up like Catherine Burns. Anyway, Summer is coming, so there is hope. Wherever you are have a great time, and thanks for your Patti story!
