I eagerly welcome a revival of "CHESS," which I saw in the late eighties with the still unequalled cast of David Carroll, Judy Kuhn and Philip Casnoff. Do Aaron Tveit, Lea Michele and Nicholas Christopher think they can equal them?????????? Are you kidding?????????????
It looks like Tveit will play the Philip Casnoff role of Freddie Trumper, Nicholas Charistopher (who?) will play the David Carroll role of Anatola Sergievsky, while Lea will play the Judy Kuhn role of Florence Lacey.
They get to sing such lovely songs as "Anthem," "Someone Else's Story," and "Pity The Child." But are they up to it??????????? Not at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What about Josh Groban? His "Anthem" is the equal of David Carroll.
How about Ruthie Ann Miles???????? Or Jessie?????????? Julie Benko???????????
And is Aaron Tveit really the best choice for the role?????????????
If only this revival had been carefully cast, I would have run straight to it.
This "CHESS," darlings, is headed for "Checkmate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
