"Here Comes The Groom, Here Comes The Groom"!!!!!!!!!!
"Spring is here, and the sky is strawberry blue,
Whooooa, birds all sing, as if they knew.
Today's the day, we''' say 'I do,'
And we'll never be lonely anymore!
Because we're
Gooooooooooing to the chapel, and we're
Gooooooona get marrrrrrrrried!
Gooooooooooooing to the chapel,
And we're goooooooona get married,
See, I really love you, and we're,
Goooooooooona get married,
Going to the chapel of love!"
---Chapel Of Love (1964)
Well, darlings, as of this week those lyrics become a reality for some of us. With President Obama giving the OK on same sex marriage, those who want to (and who knows, I may just
be among them?) can be joined at the hip, like their straight counterparts. Now, one thing I worry abut
is this. I feel that everyone, straight or gay, who wants to get married, should, but many out there who
shouldn't get married for all the wrong reasons. And I am sure members of the gay community are not
immune to this error. I fear too many will marry simply because they CAN, thus elevating the divorce
rate to a level with the straight population. I hope not, girls, but I do have this nagging fear.
What could be next??????? Well, Milton Bradley needs to come out with a
gay version of its classic "Mystery Date" now, so that young gay boys can prepare themselves for adulthood in ways my generation could not. And perhaps more same sex couples of younger vintage should be seen and accepted at high school and/or college proms--if they so desire.
Yes, it is quite a coup that the so-called leader of the Free World, gives
his OK. It also doesn't escape my notice that this is an election year, and if Obama wanted to do
something that would assure the Gay vote, this is IT!!!!!!!!!!! Not that he might not have had it anyway,
especially with what is out there. But with this, he is guaranteed!!!!!!!!!!!!
So, I want all my girls out there to think twice before taking that work
down the aisle. But if you do, make sure you have a good designer, and are registered at the right places (Henri Bendel, Bergdorf's).
As for me, dolls, it is still Vera Wang and the Pierre!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
