"And Mama Said To Me, 'Child, What's Happened To Your Appetite'?"
Yes, girls, we have arrived at another Third of June, that "sleepy, dusty Delta day."
Can you believe it is here already????. You bet I listened to Bobbie Gentry's classic "Ode to Billy Joe" this morning, and I am still dead certain that what was thrown off the bridge was a baby!!!!!! Maybe one having been still born, or aborted, but a baby, just the same.
I never bought into the notion, fostered by the Robby Benson movie, that Billy Joe was conflicted sexually, so off he went! That was cooked up by screenwriter Herman Raucher, who put his adolescent sexual fantasies on screen for all to see, via "Summer of '42," so homosexuality was not part of his agenda. He just showed with the 'Billy Joe' film that he was a big, old homophobe.
But this is a day always to be remembered, thanks to a song, just like September 12, thanks to "Frank Mills." So, all my girls out there, today you listen to the Gentry classic, have another piece of apple pie, and be nice to that young preacher, Brother Taylor, should he drop by!!!!!
And remember...seems like nothin' ever comes to no good, up on Choctaw Ridge!!!!
