The New York Herald Tribune Fresh Air Fund Was Clearly A Republican Ploy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Help send a kid to the country," the ad said. I hated these commercials, on TV during the Sixties, because my question always was--"Why?"  I mean, what the hell are they going to  do in the country?

If America was a nation divided by hayseeds and city slickers, the Democrats represented the latter, and the Republicans the former. No wonder they were content in places having nothing to do!

From the vantage point of my childhood, there was not much to do there. But in New York, you could dance on streets and roof tops--a fact corroborated by "West Side Story," not to mention "Mary Poppins" (though that was England) and, later, "Merrily We Roll Along!"

New York had museums, culture, night clubs, and Broadway shows. The ad should have been "Help send a country kid to the city."  Or at least there should have been some kind of charitable exchange plan.

With Summer fast approaching, this memory came back to me.  Yes, Summer in the city is hot and sweaty, or can be, but there is plenty to do, without joining a street gang, darlings!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like joining me for drinks, at the Colony Club. Or whatever its equivalent!
