Once Again, It Was "The Olivia Benson Show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" But Others Stepped In!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had to laugh at the promo for last night's episode, titled "Zero Tolerance," referring to this clueless administration's practice of separating children from their parents, for the latter illegally crossing immigration borders.
OK, so why punish the children???????????????????
That was the episode's intention, but with Olivia wandering around the precinct with her Joan Didion Downer look, and her big, histrionic court scene, which would never happened in real life, or had it occurred, she would have been fined for contempt or brought up on charges. She just walks away.
Thank God for Kelli Giddish and Peter Scananvino, who anchor this show in the reality it needs, and the writers who kiss ass to give Olivia a star role, avoid. Not to discredit Ice T, as Finn, but, next to him, the youngsters are newcomers, and, after several seasons, are finally coming into their own.
Amanda, by the way, is keeping the baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But the real standout in the episode was guest star Scarlet Daisy Lopez, as Gabriela Sosa. The interactions between she and Rollins, and Caprisi, too, were so heartbreaking that it took this young actress to bring the point of the whole plight of the immigrant child home, singlehandedly.
While Andy Powers was so hateful as nasty government Refugee Settlement Worker, Jeff Phelps, who deserved to be arrested, he could play a male Miss Hannigan, in drag, in a stock company of "Annie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Sex trafficking was brought in, when Gabriela is first found in a cage, tended to by "Uncle Luke," who watches other girls, and sells them to clients. Of course, the girls are barely in puberty. Gabriela did not quality yet, so she got a cage. When this outfit was cleared up, and done with, there was occasion to cheer.
In the end, Gabriela is reunited with her mother, and all is well. But remember, darlings, this is TV. That point was brought home, by giving Olivia the final shot, where she stares at all the imprisoned children she alone cannot save, And they stare back at her.
Like Noah, they probably all wish she would just get the hell out of there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
