Happy Birthday To A REAL Musical Theater Baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Martha Plimpton was conceived and born during the original Broadway run of "HAIR."  Her mother, Shelley Plimpton, originated the role of Crissy, and created the gold standard for singing my favorite song from the score, "Frank Mills."  This must have been the first music Martha ever heard.  So, she really is a Musical Theater Baby.

Aside from her comedic and dramatic gifts, all of which I love, Martha has some musical chops of her own.  She done band work with friends, and in the last revival of "Pal Joey," she singlehandedly stopped the show, with her rendition of "Zip."  Her curtain call applause at evening's end was thunderous; more than anyone in the show.

As I was leaving the theater that night, I overheard a gay couple musing on Martha.  One of them said she could be the next Mama Rose in twenty years, and, I am telling you, that is something I want to see!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But, whatever Martha is doing or planning to do, here is wishing her a happy birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

                                             Keep on truckin', Martha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
