Betty White has made it to 99, but Cloris Leachman left us, just four days ago, January 27, at the age of 94. How she will be missed.
She first blew me away as acerbic neighbor Phyllis Lindstrom on "The Mary Tyler Show." Later, she did the same in an Oscar winning performance as Ruth Popper in Peter Bogdanovich's classic American film, "The Last Picture Show." And who could forget her as the mother of Anthony Fremont, (Billy Mumy) iin the classic "Twilight Zone" episode, "It's A Good Life," based on Jerome Bixby's short story of the same name.
Cloris never let up. On Martha Plimpton's wonderful sitcom, "Raising Hope," she livened thiings up, as Grandma. And when she got her own show, "Phyllis," she matched wits with Judith Lowry, as Mother Dextter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did Cloris Leachman ever do the stage? I cannot recall. Nevertheless, she left a legacy of work behind her that will continue to amaze and delight.
Ninety-four is a pretty long run. But too soon for us to lose you, Cloris!
Rest In Peace!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
she did do some plays Very early in her career; other than that, she auditioned to revive her Young Frankenstein role for the Broadway production.
ReplyDeleteThey decided she was too old.💔
ReplyDeleteVictoria,
I saw "Young Frankenstein" on stage. It
was entertaining, but not as good as the
movie. Andrea Martin did Cloris' role, and
was very good. I think Cloris could have
done it. Look at Cicely Tyson!
Right!
ReplyDeleteWhat they may lack in stamina they make up for in Work Ethic!!
