Isn't this just cheesy looking, darlings?
Tonight "Svengoolie" is showing the 1977 AIP classic "Empire Of The Ants." Wait till you see how cheesy these ants are. For the real thing, go back 1954's "THEM!," made by Warner Bros.
But it will be fun to watch Joan Collins, playing an overaged Julia Adams, get menaced by these ants. As the poster says, "It's no picnic!," and that might equally apply to watching the film. So, forewarned, girls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you are in a different mood, Channel 13 is showing the 1937 Selznick produced, Technicolor version of "A Star Is Born," with Frederic March and Janet Gaynor. It pales beside the Garland version, but it has lush Technicolor and provides an interesting look at the idealization of early Hollywood. And look for Clara Blandick, forever Auntie Em, in some early scenes.
The choice is your, girls! I just send out the info!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
when my Marine Corps sons were stationed in North Carolina, they had something called Fire Ants.
ReplyDeleteIf you stepped on an ant pile they would swarm and sting you!!
Real Life nightmare
I'm in!!!!! I have miss Svengoolie since being on vacation in the Riveria. I'm quite surprised dear, I even returned. While not in the Hotel Portofino, one of my favorite shows, our hotel was very swanky and told that Dame Liz Taylor, Bogart and Brigette Bardot all stayed.
ReplyDeleteSo I will relish seeing Joan in this cult classic..
Mistress Maddie,
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are back from your trip, which turned out to be fabulous, it sounds. We taped the film, as we were not home, because David gave me a dream birthday weekend, which I will eventually post on here.
Victoria,
ReplyDeleteFire ants? Another reason not to move South.
