"Cold As Ice" Was Red Hot Last Night On "Rizzoli And Isles," Darlings!!!!!!!!!!!
When I first heard, darlings, that last night's episode of "Rizzoli And Isles" was going to involve Frankie with a youth hockey league, I said, "Oh, shit!" Frankie is not the reason I watch this show, and the way the writers have been making Jordan Bridges play him, not to mention that unflattering hair style, I keep thinking Frankie is not long for this show.
Fortunately, as indeed they should, Jane and Maura took center!!!!!!!!!!
Things did get off to a thrilling start at the hockey game, where, amid the conflict on the field, some was taking place off--an unknown woman, who had no overt reason for being there, crosses paths with an overzealous hockey mom, and fists fly! The woman is sent practically flinging out into the car port, where, to make matters worse for her, she is run down, by an unknown assailant. One first thinks of the hockey mom, but this episode has something far more serious in mind.
The hockey game turns out to be the backdrop for what is actually a sad family story.
But, before I get to that, let me reveal something about Angela--Lorraine Bracco. She has recently made the discovery that her sleazeball ex-hubby--the one shacking up in Florida now, with some young chippie, has not paid their taxes in......it was not made clear if it was just for one year or several.....so Angela owes about $27K to the IRS!!!!!!!!!!!! She tells Detective Vince Korsak, (Bruce McGill) who wants to loan her the money, but Angela will not take it. She also says she does not want the kids to know, even though they already suspect something is up, and, at one point, Jane says to Maura that money problems are a potential cause.
However, no one can I.D. the Jane Doe who has been murdered. She turns out to be one Dr. Carla Dalton, who was a higher-up at Easton Labs. She was doing research on the DNA related to genetic tagging for Huntington's Chorea, specifically targeting young boys aged 12 to 14, living in coastal areas. The gang discovers that on July 17, 2,00l, Carla's sister, husband and young son, Todd, were killed in some kind of boating accident, but Carla never believed that. She thought her sister's husband, one Michael Leahy, faked his and Todd's death, but killed her sister. Carla was not only tracking them down for justice; she wanted to test Todd and see if he was targeted for Huntington's.
They find that Michael is now living a new life under another name, has remarried, and changed Todd's name to Luke. The present wife knows nothing about any of this, and the boy, who was very young when the tragedy took place, most likely does not remember. When Jane and Company track him down, they find he has facially altered himself by surgery. But DNA and computer technology means scumbags no longer can hide forever, so Michael is caught, arrested, and imprisoned, while the poor, deceived woman has to suffer the trauma of losing a husband, and the kid has to come to terms with his own mother being murdered, and that his father did it. Most likely, the present wife will raise him, since she is the only mother he knows, but it will be a rocky road for both!
There was a subplot about Cailin, Hope's daughter, rebelling against her mother, (she is 19, and a college sophomore; what is THAT about????????) but it really added nothing to the story, could have been excised, and it was too bad Hope (Sharon Lawrence) did not show up!!!!!!!!!!!!
So, the episode was better than I could have imagined! But bring back that fighting hockey mom! Or, put her on Christine Quinn's campaign staff; she would fit right in, darlings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
