Sydney Already Has A Gig!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We barely said goodbye to her, for her legendary Small Alison in "Fun Home," and already Sydney Lucas has lined up her next gig. This is the way to do it in show business, darlings, I am still waiting for a gig, myself!
The word on the street is that Sydney will play the leading role of Mary Lennox, in "The Secret Garden." This is to be a concert version of the Marsha Norman and Lucy Simon musical. It will be for two nights, at the David Geffen Hall, (formerly Avery Fisher, and always that to us veteran LC'ers!!!!!!!!!) under the auspices of Manhattan Concert Productions.
This is the role that won Daisy Eagan, now in her late Thirties, a TONY Award, back in 1991, or 1992. If anyone can live up to what Daisy did with the role, it is Sydney, and I, for one, wish it would run more than two nights, because not only would I love to see what Sydney does with the role, but see who else in cast in the pivotal parts of one of my favorite stories, based on the Frances Hodgson Burnett book.
I remember the original so well. With that score, Daisy and a set design that evoked Victoriana perfectly, it was a dream evening.
As I am sure Sydney will make it. Rock on, girl! Don't let anything--even puberty--stop you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
