Girls, Meet Alice Manning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

                             Actually, you are going to hear a lot about Alice on here, since she is pivotal to the story in Laura Lippman's novel, "Every Secret Thing," and director Amy Berg's film treatment of it. I will discuss book and film individually, but this post will concentrate on Alice, portrayed in the film by a young Australian actress named Danielle MacDonald, who not only walks off with the picture, but is so chilling I believe this actress, given the make-up treatment, could play Myra Hindley!!!!!!!!

                             I can sort of  relate to Alice, which is one reason why I just LOVE her!

                             Alice is the product of a single mother, and possibly a Black man.  She is overweight, attractive, but not pretty the way her mother wants her to be. Which she makes clear to her daughter from the time she is old enough to comprehend.  Helen Manning (Diane Lane) is some piece of work that will certainly NOT make Mother Of The Year!!!!!!!!  Like mother, like daughter???????

                            Helen Manning's life is not perfection, but she deludes herself into thinking it is.  What Alice inherits from her mother is a disjointed way of thinking, only Alice is more devious and manipulative in playing a situation out. Which the story makes clear.

                              But, darlings, I just LOVE Alice.  She was not sent to the school she wanted to go to--just like I was.  She resented the classmates she had to associate with, when she wanted the more popular crowd--jut like I did.  She still carries these resentments, just as I do, and it is interesting how these resentments trickle down into aspects of adult life--both mine and Alice's.  She wanted attention THEN, and she wants it NOW--just as I do!!!!!!!!!!!!

                                 In short, Alice is one of most fascinating fictional sociopaths in recent memory. But don't dare mess with her. This is no Alice In Wonderland!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
