They Better Honor "Citizen Kane" On Its 75th Anniversary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

                         Several films and shows have milestone anniversaries this year, so let's start with the one at the top--1941's "Citizen Kane," considered by some to be the Greatest American Movie Ever Made, turns 75 this year!  As I have found, it gets better and better with each viewing.

                            The pleasures it gives--from the imagery, to its operatic parody, to Dorothy Comingore's brilliant performance, have dazzled audiences for three-quarters-of -a century. Along with "How Green Was My Valley"--celebrating the same anniversary--it is controversial; may feel the Best Picture Oscar given to 'Valley' should have gone to 'Kane.' Having seen both, and intending to recognize the other film in a post of its own, I feel it is like apples and oranges--both are perfect, in their own ways.

                          Few films were as daring as "Citizen Kane."  In the Welles Canon, "Touch Of Evil" comes close, but not until Altman's "Nashville" in 1975 was there a film that brilliantly blended cinema with the media of its day as compellingly as Welles' achievement. And I stand by that claim.

                            How  many of us wanted to be sitting in Xanadu, doing those jigsaw puzzles. The only question is, why did he build in Florida???????  With the lack of air conditioning back then, it would have been like an oven!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

                                And Xanadu was all about comfort and luxury, girls!!!!!!!!!  Something we all know about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
