Have You Heard About The "Trad Wife" Movement!???????????????????????????????

To think I was made aware of this on the TV show "Elsbeth," which we watch for pleasure on Thursday nights.  The "Trad Wife" movement is simply dreadful.  It is a group of women and their neanderthal husbands who want to live life as it was in 1950's America!  Girls, I kid you not!!!!!!!!! Can you believe this???????????????

Not since Marabel Morgan's "Total Woman" movement in 1973--which netted Joyce Maynard her second cover story in "The New York Times" Magazine--" in which she seemed to be an advocate--has there emanated such media nonsense.  Why would any adult woman in her right mind want to go back to that time?  Even Joyce seems to have moved on, living life as an individual, though I do not fault her for her pie crusts.  They are difficult to make.  My mother said that only her friend, Dotty Kramer--oh, what a character!!!!!!--could make really good pie crusts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This "Trad Wife" thing is total garbage, and phony as hell, as demonstrated well on last night's episode of "Elsbeth," where the guru of non-liberation was blithely hauled off to prison for murder.  It was great that a murder took place on this show--it almost always does--but the "Trad Wife" advocate should have been the victim.  But then, I guess, there would have been no story. Maybe there should be one, or a documentary about how this movement could spell damage for America.

Are we generating a group of Blondie Boopadoops?????????????

In this case, I was glad for this episode of "Elsbeth" to open my eyes.

This could destroy the fabric of America!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Victoria, I agree with you, but there is a movement out there. Any woman who would choose this life should have her sanity and individuality questioned.

Like all trends of the past 20 years, this Trad Wife nonsense isn't really a true organic movement: its performative kabuki to attract eyeballs and clicks to bored affluent women desperate for social media relevance. Elsbeth kind of blurred the lines on this point in a manner I didn't like: it implied the practitioners are forced into it by their husbands.

While there ARE a significant number of women opting for a version of traditional mothering, most are doing it in spite of their husbands (who would prefer they keep working). And of course there's always that group of Neanderthals and their mates who do authentically subscribe to prehistoric mores, but thats really a different group altogether.

The current trad fad as depicted in Elsbeth is accurate in the Martha Stewart details, but is way off base in claiming the wife left a high powered career at the behest of her rich husband, making her hostage to a lifestyle she didn't fully choose for herself. Certainly in the Park Slope Brooklyn setting, this would never ever be the case. The Slope is chock full of demented overpaid twerps who deliberately choose all manner of goofy lifestyle pursuits, almost always in service to whatever inane social media image they want to present.

My Dear
The idea of such a movement disgusts me. It seems more like a cult to me, and cults are dangerous. I got the impression that the wife on Elsbeth really wanted out, but could not because of influence and her neanderthal husband.
It has been my experience that once you get outside the city--any city--you see these trad types. I saw several in my family growing up, and it was sad.
But times have changed. I thought it was interesting of "Elsbeth" to examine this.
