Remember when Edward Van Sloan spoke that line to Colin Clive, in the original, Universal 1931 "Frankenstein?" Because it was not in the Mary Shelley novel, and there was no Fritz, or any assistant, to steal from. the Monster's issue in the Shelley novel stemmed more from society out casting him on the basis of a grotesque appearance, causing anger to turn to hate.
Some of these moments are dealt with in the Universal film, but what's made clear is that poor Fritz (brilliantly played by Dwight Frye; I LOVE him!!!!!!!!!!) gets the blame for the Monster being bad. In fact, it even kills Fritz.
As Madeline Kahn made clear to film viewers in "Young Frankenstein," the Monster was incredibly hung. I gather the Monster in the 1931 film, was, too, which was why Fritz was coming on to him, even though he had a good thing going with Victor Frankenstein. I have said this before--these two had a relationship, where Dr. Frankenstein bottomed out with Fritz, once they hit the sack. Fritz may have been humped back--which was part of the attraction--but he was quite a top!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Of course, Fritz' mistake early on gives one pause to think--had he not dropped the "Normal Brain" jar and delivered it, would this have been a happier story?
I can think of something worse.
Suppose the brain Fritz had stolen was that of Donald Trump, or a defendant on "Judge Judy?" A masterwork would have tumbled into moronic idiocy. In fact, having Trump with his brain is almost like having the Monster as President.
If only Mae Clarke, who was in "Frankenstein," was still alive.
It would now be HER turn to shove the grapefruit, into the Monster's face!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
