Baby Boomers Mourn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
While not quite as momentous as Dick Clark, it was sadly learned last night that Geoge Lindsey, aka "Goober", of "The Andy Griffith Show" and "Gomer Pyle", passed away at the age of 83!!!!!!!!!!
Goober was Gomer's cousin, and he ran the local filling station in Mayberry. I cannot recall whether he tangled with Frances Bavier as Aunt Bee, but Goober was so lovable, I bet he would have even made Aunt Bee smile!!!!!!!!
Unlike Gomer, Goober never eventually got his own series, but he did appear on Nabors' show, and then Lindsey went on, appropriately enough, to "Hee Haw!", which could be a hoot, if taken in limited doses!!!!!!!!!!
Not since Jughead Jones of the Archie comics (no relation to Jennifer, darlings!!!!!!!) has anyone defined the pointed hat as fashion with more renown. Goober was a joy whenever he appeared, and George Lindsey was brilliant at portraying him. I always wondered how true Southerners felt about their depiction on these sitcoms, but since they were hits in their time, I guess they ate it up as much as the rest of us!!!!!!!!!!!
So, a fond farewell to funnyman George Lindsey. You will live on in the hearts of many, and on film, as Goober!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wonder if the chocolate peanut candy Goobers (of Goobers and Raisinettes) was named after him. Or vice versa???????????
