Darlings, How About THIS Patricia???????????
Girls, who could forget raven haired, alabaster skinned Patricia Medina, as she was stalked by the hairy gorilla in the 1954 classic, "Phantom Of The Rue Morgue"???? This was, of course, a remake of the 1932 Bela Lugosi "Murders In The Rue Morgue." Both were adapted from Edgar Allan Poe's story of the aforementioned title, but, with Karl Freund at the helm of the earlier version, it was more artistically satisfying.
Nevertheless, Miss Medina, was one of a striking bevy of raven haired lovelies in the Fifties--like Faith Domergue, Dana Wynter and Mara Corday--and she was married to Joseph Cotten (one of our great, underrated actors, memorable as Uncle Charlie in Hitchcock's :"Shadow Of A Doubt").
This week Miss Medina took her final curtain call, so to speak, passing on from this world to the next. How I always thrilled when WNEW Channel 5 would screen "Phantom Of The Rue Morgue," as they did so many times, back in the 60's and 70's. Maybe someone--the Film Forum???--will have a Patricia Medina festival. She may not have been A-list, loves, but she did epitomize Fifties glamour!!!!!!
Would there were such glamour today! A sad and fond farewell to Patricia, and all she represented!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't neglect your glamour, now, darlings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
