That is Ronald Colman and Jane Wyatt (yes, the same actress who played Kathy's (Dorothy McGuire) biased sister in 1947 "Gentleman's Agreement," not to mention Margaret Anderson on "Father Knows Best!!!!!!!!!!!!") in Frank Capra's 1937 adaptation of James Hilton's novel "Lost Horizon."
Capra would seem an odd choice to direct a story about a group of people who discover an enchanting place called Shangri-La. Even more interesting is that the set designer took not an Asian approach, but a Thirties Art Deco one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Girls, isn't this shot captivating? Who wouldn't want their own Art Deco estate just like this????????? The photo is so hypnotic.
I saw this movie in eighth grade, when we studied the novel in English class. I wonder if anyone reads it anymore? Or it is it still in print?????????? Who knows?????????
But what an enchanting garden to walk into each morning or just sit in a chair and read all day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Art Deco is a style having been lost but needs to come back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Get rid of all this Modernism junk, girls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
