Svengoolie has restored fun to Saturday night, girls, and he is doing it with giant bug movies. Last night , we had such fun with "Earth VS. The Spider," but "The Black Scorpion" has something of an iconic reputation.
It stars monster veterans Riichard Denning and Mara Corday. Mara was the darlings of Fifties giant monster movies, having starred in 1955's "Tarantula!," 1957's "The Giant Claw," and now this. Monsters went for Mara in a BIG way! Check out the scene where the scropion peers at her through the window.
And the train wreck sequence is a testament to great special efffects, as this was the last film worked on by the great Willis O'Brien, who, of course broke ground with 1933's "King Kong." No wonder the scorpion here looks so realistic.
But it is still a hoot! So, join me, with popcorn, or what you please, and watch "The Black Scorpion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
It will simply sting you, darlings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
