This year, girls, there are a number of important cultural anniversaries! I will try and list them, in the order of their occurrence.
On March 2, "The Sound Of Music" turns 50!!!!!!!!!! It opened in New York, at the Rivoli Theatre, back in 1965!!!!!!!!!! From that moment, I wanted to be either Angela Cartwright, or Heather Menzies!
Ten years later, on May 16, !975, "A Chorus Line" opened in New York, at the Public Theatre. I did not see it, until it moved to Broadway's Shubert, in July. I saw it on October 25, 1975, and from that moment on, wanted to be Donna McKechnie! And I still do!!!!!!!!!!! "A Chorus Line"--oh, my God, can you believe it????--will turn 40 this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!
On June 11, 1975, Robert Altman's masterpiece, "Nashville," opened in New York, and from that moment, I wanted to be Ronee Blakley as Barbara Jean! To think this film turns 40 this year!
Let's hope the Film Forum has an Anniversary screening!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And, finally, on the very last day of this year, "Doctor Zhivago" turns 50! It opened in New York on December 31, 1965, and, from that moment on, I have tried my best to be as glamorous as Julie Christie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
These are some big annniversaries, darlings, for some very big vehicles! Let's hope they receive the honor due to them!
Not like "The Wizard Of Oz," and "Gone With The Wind," last year!!!!!!!!!
Happy Anniversary, To One And All!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
