The Time For Seasonal Affect Disorder Is At Hand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have passed January 6, darlings!!!!!!!!!!! Now, everything comes to a screeching halt. And so my period of Seasonal Affect Disorder begins, lasting till sometime in March.
Already, I have a cold, with wheezing I cannot shake. I have a doctor appt. tomorrow, so we shall see what happens. And I am still struggling with the new Murakmai.
This is not a successful transition to 2019.
It is the most difficult time of the year, for me.
La Sacre du Printemps, darlings!!!!!!!! I await it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why Is Talking Tina Nasty To The Mother, At The End!??????????????????
With pestilence infecting our house on New Years Day, it was inevitable we would tune in to "The Twilight Zone Marathon." Of course, I had to watch "Living Doll," or, as I call it, "Talking Tina," where Telly Savalas Erich Streator, recently married to Anabelle (Mary La Roche), who has a daughter named Christie, played by Tracy Strattford. Erich has all the warmth of an SS officer, and Savalas' performance is so chilling in its meanness, that, when his demise comes, it is welcomed with outright applause!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good riddance to bad rubbish.
Now, isn't it interesting that the wife's name is Anabelle? The current franchise owes much to this episode, and, I am certain, was inspired by it.
Mary La Roche is moving and sympathetic as the emotionally abused spouse. She stands up to Erich, speaks in support of Christie, and is never nasty, or has an unkind word for Tina.
So, why does the doll threaten her with, "My name is Talking Tina....and you had better be nice to me." There are several possibilities.
She didn't leave her husband, as originally planned.
She let the abuse go on to long for Christie, as far as Tina is concerned.
She wants to establish who is boss.
The story needed a plot twist.
Here is June Foray (who also voiced Judy Jetson!!!!!) on "portraying" Talking Tina!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Be nice to each other, dolls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry To Say, The Reading Year Is Starting Out On A Down Note!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And what a downer, that is! No, darlings, I am not reading Joan Didion. From where I stand now, Joan would be an improvement, because, while depressing, she understands the merit of brevity. What I have been reading, of late, demonstrates that some writers just don't know when to quit, or their editors are so exasperated they don't know what to do with them, or their clients are so full of themselves they think they don't need editing. My guess is a combination of all three.
Which is the case with "The Force" by Dan Winslow. I have to give this guy credit, where it is due. He lives in California, but writes about New York City with the knowledge of someone who has lived here for a time, because some of the locales he references would be unrecognizable to those living outside the area.
The novel is fast paced, full of murder, villainous policemen, including a cop, who actually betrays himself. So, what is wrong? Well, about three fourths of the way through the book, I was anxious for Winslow to wrap things up, leaving the reader with a nice, tightly packaged story. But, instead, he goes on and on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wanted to say, "Enough already!," and, when I closed the cover on this one, instead of being satisfied, I was exasperated!
And I am having trouble with my current selection, "Killing Commendatore," by Haruki Murakami. I am desperate to finish it, but, oh, my God, it is a slog. But if I could make it through William T. Vollman, anything is possible. We shall see. Either way, I will get back to you, on this. Though it may finish me with Murakami.
Writers need to stop feeling obligated to be epic, when there is no need for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Cold.....Oh No!!!!!!!!!!! Baby, I Can't Believe Your Heart Is Cold! Maybe It's Just Afraid, To Be Broken Again!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
The #MeToo movement would love this! Back in the Fifties, or even early Sixties, there were a series of records called "Music For A Bachelor's Den....Sex Kittens!!!!!!!!" Can you imagine such a thing, today? Oh, my God!!!!!!!!!!! And, once again, gay men are shut out, even though they will know more about the music on this recording than their straight male counterparts.
This particular recording is special to me, because it features one of my favorite standards of the era, Lena Horne's rendition of "Watch What Happens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
And you know who has gotten into the groove???????? Our own, lovable, reptile friend, Baby Gojira! He is dancing, jiving, and sing up a storm to this tune! I am telling you, if we don't watch out, he is going to be booked at Feinstein's 54 Below, where he will sell out every performance.
Since yesterday, he has been jumping and jiving, all over the place. Oh, my God! There he goes again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He may not want to be a Sex Kitten, because he is just our lovable Baby Gojira, whom we adore! For those of you girls who aspire to Sex Kitten status--and I know you are out there--take a good look at yourselves in the mirror, and examine your hair, figure, and accessories.
Here is Lena singing that song! No wonder I was so captivated! And Baby Gojira, too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"You Cockadoodie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
One of my many favorite moments in "Misery," is when Annie Wilkes (memorably played by Kathy Bates) goes into town, and another car collides into her. She yells out this childish phrase with such vehemence, the guy gets out of the car, and challenges her.
And this is in rural Colorado, I think. Imagine if this were New York!!!!!!!!!!!!
But, before going there, let me say that, darlings, I am back. I have been off here, as David and I have been recovering from post holiday colds. We are improving, but I have to get a hold of my wheezing. Know any good home remedies? My PCP didn't give me anything for it; I may have to go back to him, and demand something to ease this...pardon the pun...misery!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now, back to Annie. We just love her, darlings! Imagine a production of the musical "Annie," where the title character is dressed and played like Annie Wilkes. She calls Miss Hannigan a bitch, socks her in the mouth, and does all those Annie Wilkes things we love--minus the hobbling, in a radical re-imagining of the 1977 musical theater classic.
No, dears, I am not having a psychic break. I mean, I am writing, aren't I?????
But I am having some time getting through the new Haruki Murakami, and I am not sure if I am going to make it. I mean, if I could get through "Europe Central," by William T. Vollman, or "Pamela," by Samuel Richardson, I can get through this. If only it was not so darned long and repetitious. But maybe my cold is altering my perception. Somehow, I don't think so.
I would like to shout out, "You cockadoodie!" to Haruki Murakami. I would also like to shout it out on the subway train, and see what happens. I can guarantee you two scenarios--either no one will bat an eye, because no one will recognize the phrase, because how many people riding the subway today, actually read books? Most of them are brain dead!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The other scenario is, recognition or not, some nut will go ballistic and attack me!!!!!!!!!!!!! So, much as I would like to try this, the sensible part of me will not.
It's OK to be entertained by Annie Wilkes, but not to emulate her,
because, as James Caan, as writer Paul Sheldon tells her, at the climax--
She is one "sick, twisted FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Now, THIS Is A Movie I Would Like To See!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just perfect for the coming year, isn't it, darlings? Especially at this time, when the Holidays and their aftermath induce coughs and colds in so many of us.
The phlegm balls, come, of course, from outer space. They travel in clusters, and are big enough to be seen by people walking down the street, who get chased by them. Their danger is when they attack--they surround the person or persons, and, then on cue, disintegrate, releasing a noxious odor that kills everyone, but produces new phlegm balls!
How can they be stopped? Delsyn? Advil? Tylenol 3, with codeine?
You tell me, darlings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Happy New Year, Everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here I am, girls, back for another chapter of this blog. I forget to tell you our beloved Gojira has a movie coming out this year, probably in the Summer, and it will be all the rage; everyone will see it.
Last night, no big whoop! The ball dropped, I sipped, yelled, blew a horn, and went to bed!!!!!!!!!!!! Better home on TV than in Times Square!
Tomorrow I face the dentist and the doctor. So things start up again.
Looking forward to recording some hilarious doings!
My best to all of you, darlings!
Which one of you is the New Year Baby?????????????
