And Let's Not Forget The 1950's, Next Best To the 40's, For Style And Glamour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just look at those hair designs!  And those floral looking clips!  The 1950's were also a time of glamour; it came to an end when the Mod look invaded London and America in the 1960's.  Then all glamour went straight to hell.

But that does not mean you can recreate, darlings.  Look at this fabulous array of styles and accessories.  Pick one as your own or alternate on different days or weeks; it is within your power to do so.

You may not look like Grace Kelly, but you CAN look like Faith Domergue.

Here is Faith, dressed for a night on the town.  WE can do it, girls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Girls, If You Get Up At The Crack Of Dawn, Always Start Your Day Like Anne Revere In "The Song Of Bernadette!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

When the church bells chime 6AM, and the camera peers through the window into the Soubirous residence, in the opening shots of the film, Anne Revere gets up, pulls herself together, starts the fire, and gets ready to heat the coffee.

Darlings, this is how all our days should start. Though not everyone need arise at 6AM. Or look as unglamorous as Anne.  Remember this was Lourdes on February 11, 1858, and all she had was some old thing that would do while she was starting to heat the coffee.  And she never bothered to put up her hair.

Which was a way of introducing the poverty of this family.  But coffee was still heated up, no matter what.

A lot can be learned from Anne Revere in this film.  Like how to fix coffee, and how to fold laundry.

Five more days till the annual screening of "The Song Of Bernadette."

Girls, Spring Is Here! So, Remember The Importance Of Your Hairstyle And Accessories!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can think of no decade more fashionable than the 1940's, so I want all you girls--and guys--out there to arrange your hair into these fabulous styles, topped with the most cunning accessories, as with today's styles, they make one look like cheap prostitute, emerging from a back alley.

                                  No wrong-side-of-the-tracks girls, here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sweeties, there is no excuse not to look your best.  So, I have given you some samples to peruse.  I am sure Sally, or whomever you go to, can turn you into a glamorous 1940's woman!!!!!!!!!!!!!  One with style!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Perfect for the Easter Parade, this coming Sunday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Cruelty Starts Early, Darlings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This post was actually meant for yesterday, darlings, but then I did not want to ruin the joy of Palm Sunday for anyone.  Palm Sunday is not the reason April is cruel; it just happened to fall on April 2 this year, according to the Liturgical Calendar.

The date April 2 is forever etched in my memory, because on that date, back in 1979--44 year ago, to be exact--my mother passed away.  If any event in our family's life was a life changer, this was one.

Some memories are too painful to share, but these I can share with you.  It was on a weekday--a Monday, actually.  It was 7:30AM, and I was just getting up--remember I was younger than, only 24!- when the telephone rang.  It never rang that early in our house, so I knew this was it.  Sure enough, my father called to me from downstairs, and told me the doctor had called and, well, she was gone.  To make it worse, the radio, which was kept on in our house all the time till bedtime, was playing a song I hated to begin with, but even more so now--"Honey," by Bobby Goldsboro.  I cannot listen to it, today.

Just like, in "Sweeney Todd," now enjoying a hot Broadway revival, when the barber sings, "If only angels could prevail, we'd be the way we were," it broke my heart, and still does, because, at the time of my mother's passing, and what followed subsequently, I wanted what was sung in that lyric so much.  But I knew we could not go back.

So, Palm Sunday notwithstanding, yesterday was a sad day.  Thankfully, my wonderful David found a remedy.  We took a trip into downtown Brooklyn, where I purchased a pair of eyeglasses I actually liked, and then went to Barnes and Noble, where, of course, I picked up some books..  In those moments, I actually forgot what day it was.

Thanks to my wonderful David, and an encounter with Dexter the day before, the cruelty of April was staved off.

                                     But its memory always lingers.

Happy Palm Sunday, Everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is strange to call this day "happy," when it kicks off a week of suffering and sorrow, reminding us of what Jesus did for us all.  But the triumphant march into Jerusalem was happy occasion, so we celebrate that, and carry the palms.

And so the kickoff to Easter.  And yes, Passover in just three days.  Darlings, can you believe "The Ten Commandments" was shown already?  Last night, at 7PM on Channel 7.  A week early.

Make no mistake--the annual screening of "The Song Of Bernadette" will take place, here, as it always does on Easter Sunday, at 1PM.  Be sure to watch it and be moved.

So, a Happy Palm Sunday and Passover to all out there!

May this be one of 2023's holiest and loving of times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"In An April Dream......Once You Came To Me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"Are we just April Fools" darlings?  That is the question I keep asking myself on this day, each year.  And what is the meaning of it all?   When did it start?  And why?

What bothers me is some use this day as an excuse for cruelty.  As Blanche DuBois said, "Deliberate cruelty is not forgivable."  So, if you must be humorous today, loves, do it with affection.

We are heading into Easter, holy territory, and the annual screening of "The Song Of Bernadette," which is only in eight days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

T.S. Eliot said "April is the cruelest month," and for personal reason of mine it is.

But try to be joyous, on this April Fools Day.  Besides, there is "Svengoolie" to look forward to.
