The Dawn In Last Night's "AHS 1984," "Red Dawn," Was As Bloody As The Sunrise Sky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
More questions and revelations, as daylight broke on last night's episode of "AHS 1984." Nurse Rita, or whomever she is--Dee Dee--makes the discovery, in a childhood flashback, that her father is a sadistic serial killer. What is she going to do? Even more, what is he going to do to her?
Meanwhile, at Camp Redwood, Montana finally reveals her bitchiness to Brooke. She tells Brooke how great she is at playing the victim, and I have to agree with her; so far, Emma has been doing a better job at that than I ever expected. But I cannot stop wondering, when is Emma/Brooke going to reveal that inner bitch, that I know she just can't hide forever?
And how about Sarah Paulson? When is her surprise visit coming??????????
Margaret and Chet take a boat ride, whereupon she kills him. With that face, his future is gone. Brooke finally learns Montana wants to kill her because she blames Brooke for her brother's death. Brooke goes running into the woods, has sex with Ray--but is it really Ray, or a ghost? And how can a physical being have sex with a corporeal one? That is new to me, and will have to be explained. I mean, if such a thing were possible, gay men would be having sex with their dead porn idols!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But the highlight was the ending, with Richard Ramirez (Zach Villon) and Mr. Jingles (the wonderful John Carroll Lynch) heading back to Los Angeles, where we just know a blood bath will ensue.
In the immortal words of Arlo Guthrie--
"Comin' in to Los Angeles,
Bringin' in a couple of keys,
Don't touch my bags, if you please, mister customs man."

Eh, its been entertaining enough (if way too bloody), but if it continues in the current vein its rapidly gonna lose novelty value. Halfway thru, and Murphy is frantically throwing in the tropes he's already worn out in previous seasons.
Everyone killed on the camp grounds is resurrected physically but must stay there forever ala Murder House, check, Satan (for no apparent reason or followup) randomly decides to resurrect serial killers on the campgrounds, but they can apparently defy the rule and leave the camp ala Asylum, check, innocent woman defending herself takes the fall for all the murders ala Roanoke, check, etc etc. I half expect Sarah Paulson's cameo to be a time-traveling Billie Dean Howard, which will give us a "tie the season to other seasons" trope- again, check. Take the one good character twist and fumble it into the toilet, check: other than you, RQ, nobody watching this wanted to see Jingles redemption arc scuttled just so he could joyride with Ramirez. We wanted to see him avenge himself against Margaret in the finale.
I mean, its still a fun way to spend an hour on Wednesday nights, but if Ryan is so out of gas he has to keep repeating key story beats the show is gonna just wreck its legacy of originality if it drags on another few years. If a few of the legends like Kathy Baker or Denis Hare were still involved it would help patch over the rough spots: their fabulous slumming is sorely missed this season.
Darling,
I could the reference to "Horror House," and thought it
repetitious. David spotted the one to "Roanoke." I
don't where it will end up, or whether Ramirez and Mr.
Jingles will even make it to L.A.
What's curious to me is while the actors are doing
top notch work, I really don't care about their
charcters!
Bring on a Holy Trinity of Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, and Frances Conroy!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Talk about actors slumming, can you believe our beloved Frances Conroy plays Joaquin Phoenix' mother in "Joker"? Good for her that she accidentally stumbled into the biggest movie of the year, but ugh: this trainwreck is the biggest movie of the year? God help us: "joker" makes "Dark Phoenix" look like an art film, and that previously had my tag for worst of the year.
