Isn't she just stunning, girls???????? What passes for such today???????????
Now she is known as "Mia Farrow's mom," but in her day, Maureen O'Sullivan was a stunning beauty, and an actress whose brilliance matched that beauty. Just look at her work as Kitty in 1935's "Anna Karenina," or that same year's "David Copperfield," where she played Dora. Her talent was not limited to period films, as shown by her work in such more contemporary films as the horror picture, "The Devil Doll," in 1936, and 1948's thriller, "The Big Clock."
And did you know she was the front runner for Melanie in "Gone With The Wind," until Olivia De Havilland convinced Jack Warner to let her go over to the Selznick studio, and test for the part. The rest is history!!!!!!!!!!!!
Later, she tried the stage, and I was fortunate enough to have seen her on Broadway in 1980's "Morning's At Seven." If only she had worked more, but she was lucky in the output she did, having to raise seven children.
Was there anything Maureen couldn't do??????????? I doubt it.
Hey, Film Forum, are you listening? Why not have a Maureen O'Sullivan festival?
Her stunning beauty and work have gone too long underappreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

people still get her confused with Maureen O’ hara and it’s Not Fair
Victoria, I agree. O'Hara was beautiful too, but I think Maureen O' Sullivan was a more nuanced actress. She and Vivien Leigh were classmates in convent school. Can you imagine?
