Good News For Godzilla/Gojira Fans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It just goes to prove, you can't keep a good lizard down, darlings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The movie "Godzilla" is actually a multi-generational family saga, in which the creature empathizes with some of the players. There is a scene between him ans Aaron Taylor-Jonson, as Ford Brody, the grown up son of Bryan Cranston and Juliette Binoche (both excellent in small parts, and too small for Juliette, but, hey everyone wants to work with Gojira!!!!!!!!!!!!) where they look at each other, and Gojira smiles at him, as if to say he understands what he lost, and to reassure him he will be reunited with his son and wife, the former played by Elizabeth Olsen trying to channel Kate Winslet.

Then there is Ken Watanabe, who plays Dr. Ishiro Seerizawa.  What I want to know is--who is this Dr. Serizawa, and how can he be related to the one from the 1954 film?  The idea here is that this is his son. But, remember, Dr. Serizawa sacrificed his life at the end of the first film, to save mankind, and because he knew Emiko would be happier with Ogata.  So, does this mean there was a love child, during the war?  And is Serizawa here that love child?????????????? He is the only character, by the way, to properly call the creature "Gojira."

But nobody out acts our lovable reptile.  He is given a big star entrance, well into the film, and when he is finally seen, the theater erupted with bravos and applause.  And Gojira actually turns out to be an emissary of Peace, not to harm mankind, but to help it, as Ken Watanabe's character says, "to restore order and balance to nature."  You see, Gojira has been a star for 60 years, but he has been on the planet longer than that, so he knows when his terrain is being upset, and he is not about to let that happen to the planet or the friends he shares it with.  And so, somehow summoned by disturbances above, he comes to the rescue.

When those familiar spikes are seen above water, guiding the Naval fleet, it is a sign of reassurance, more than terror. Everyone here feels safe with Gojira around, and nobody is afraid of him. And when he takes on those nasty MUTOS (a nasty, military secret, the government had been hiding!!!!!!) the audience cheers. The cheek of one of them, biting Gojira on the neck, but let me tell you, Gojira takes care of them with his strong arms, and atomic breath, breaking them in two, and using his breath full force.  The audience goes wild!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But, like all of us, he has gotten older.  And so, when the battle is done, he suddenly collapses, and everyone fears he is dead.  But not to fear; his eye opens, to let us know he is alive, but he needs a minute to recuperate. Hey, who wouldn't????????????  And he deserves it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then he picks himself up, and goes back to the sea, where he is content to be, waving
bye bye to the people on land, and, as those spikes sink beneath us, we know he will return for another movie!!!!!!!!!!

Gojira is the greatest, and we are so proud of him!!!!!!!!!!!!    That nasty Mothra; her publicity mill is still sending out notices calling Gojira a fatty!  He is buff and butch!  As well as cute and cuddly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I urge everyone to see this movie!  You'll want to give Gojira a big hug, afterwards!!!!!!!!!!!

Jack This Horse Off, And Call It A Night, Darlings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As charming and bucolic as it looks, darlings, as isolated as it is, located on Hicks Street in the farthest section of Brooklyn Heights, going toward DUMBO, as atmospheric as it is inside, dining at the Jack The Horse Tavern will give you an idea of what it is like to work in a salt mine!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our Saturday night gathering, to honor the birthdays of Paul and Mark, was merry enough, but the overall cuisine, appetizing as the menu made it sound, became a different matter when tasted, as each entree (my pork chop, Ellen's duck breast, even the roast chicken!!!!!) was saturated with so much salt it made your average can of soup seem health conscious.  As one of of our compatriots remarked, it was a young person's place; our group, frankly, seemed to be the oldest in there, the staff was young and trim, so, of course these folk, who are young and think their bodies will last forever and that there is no such thing as health issues (because that is what one thinks, when young; hell, I did!!!!!!!!!) don't have a thing to worry about, and can eat to their hearts content. Wait, kids, you will pay for it, later.

Thank God for our charming host, Alan, who whisked us away to his bohemian spot in Brooklyn Heights for a lovely coffee and cake repast.  He was the host with the most, the cake was scrumptious, and the Nantucket painting he put up over the table was stunning.

A good time was had by all, even if we are going to watch our salt intake, this week. Because, if you dine at the Jack The Horse Tavern, it becomes a necessity.

Remember the giant ants, in the 1954 movie, "Them!" ?(with James Whitmore; not to be confused  with the Joyce Carol Oates novel of the same title) .  They would have a ball at this place, as the salt supply is so high.

I understand the place has been around for nearly five years. Beats me, because no one, unless directed, would go to this destination.  If it goes under in the next couple of months, either someone read this blog, or the ants took over!

Or the ants read the blog, and stayed away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He's Baaaaaaaaaaaaack, Girls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today, as everyone on here knows, is Gojira Day!  Our big, lovable lizard friend returns to the screen in more than 15 years, and the word on the street is that it is good to have him back.

One critic even had some compassion for Gojira, who has been a star for nigh unto 60 years.  He was born when I was, in 1954, so I have always had a kind of special relationship with him, but, due to synchronicity, it would be fair enough, I think, to say that he is the Official Monster Of The Baby Boomer Generation.

And, like that generation, Gojira is feeling a bit of his age.  He  looks great, and  is cute and cuddly as ever--look how the standees near him in the photo seem to be greeting him!!!!!!!!!!!

But there is a moment--I have not seen it yet, so I cannot confirm--in the film, where Gojira is in San Francisco,  tearing up a building, where he pauses to take a breath, as if to say, "I need a minute, here!"   We don't want to tire Gojira out, and I hope the filmmakers did not over work him; he just wants to please his fans.  But, he has feelings, too!!!!!!!!!!!!

Feelings of excitement were high at last night's star studded premiere in New York.  Gojira looked stunning in a gold lame sports jacket, escorting, on his arm, Sister Camille D'Arienzo of the Sisters Of Mercy, who looked pretty elegant, herself, especially in those diamond encrusted earrings purchased for her by Gojira, from Van Cleef And Arpels!!!!!!!!!!!

Joining this elegant couple were our neighborhood friends--Cujo, looking especially dashing in a black cumber bun, Pete, The Pigeon, in a festive  black top hat, and those two lovable Pekingese from 77th Street--Victoria, sporting a diamond encrusted tiara, and Stinky, with the same type of collar.  All were on hand to cheer their friend and compatriot, Gojira!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As for me, girls, I will not be going till Sunday!  So, stay tuned, for a full action report!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can't keep a good lizard down!  I hear negotiations are underway for Gojira and MERYL to do a revival of "The Night Of The Iguana.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"God, When It's Over, Do I Need A Drink!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

As all my girls on here who are Theater Queens know, that is the line sung by Sheila, during "The Tap Combination," near the end of "A Chorus Line."  I kept quoting it, as I watched Part Two of NBC's "Rosemary's Baby" miniseries.  Meanwhile, the line my beloved Monsieur kept whispering into my ear was, "You owe me, big time!"

I cannot blame him.  Could the second part of "Rosemary's Baby" be any worse than the first?????????  The answer is yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hadn't realized till then that Hutch had been made into two characters--Rosemary's friend, Julie (who, we learn had slept with Guy before Rosemary hooked up with him, hmmmmmmmmmmm.....) and a sympathetic police commissioner.  Both get their satanic comeuppance--Julie in a gruesome cooking class death, and the commissioner in a car accident, on his way (like Hutch) to meeting Rosemary.  The editing between the commissioner's death, and Jason Isaacs, as Roman Castevet, smoking a stogie, flashing the commissioner's match lighter, was a little heavy handed.  But, then, so was the whole thing.

Did you know Roman is Steven Marcato, for Eternity?  And that they use baby blood (as well as the blood of other mothers tried, or missing prostitutes) to stay young?  No that young, girls!!!!!!!!!  And this is not the way Ira Levin wrote it!!!!!!!!!!!!  Gag me with a spoon!!!!!!!!!!!

The characters standing in for Laura Louise, and Drs. Sapirstein and Hill, were all, more or less, after thoughts.  It made no sense here Sapirstein should be connected to the coven, and of course, he is.  And we are never shown the Castevets referring Rosemary  to him.

These are glaring omissions in a story that has to have a certain amount of credibility to work.  But that, and artistry, go out the window here!

As for the baby, we get to see it, but you know what--big deal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  When I saw the glowing eyes, I laughed!!!!! First, because he did not look especially Satanic, and second, I started to think the baby had been fathered by the cat, who is called No Name!  I mean, he had more balls than Patrick J. Adams as Guy!!!!!!!!!!!  When he recites the line, "It's like you had another miscarriage," I was glad Rosemary spat in his face, but I wanted to see her send him flying out the window.  Let's face it, with the baby born, who needs Guy, so I always felt, if the story were followed through, something would eventually happen to him.  I kept hoping for this, but, alas, no!!!!!!!

However, if it were up to me, I would have sent Adams to an acting school, because, based on how he plays his final scene, he can't even read a line.

La, la, la--the whole thing ends with Rosemary, sporting a black baby carriage, walking the little Devil along the Parc Marceau.  Big fucking deal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If there are any real witches out there, do us all a favor, and cast a spell on Hollywood so it does not generate crap like this we are forced to waste our time on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And may everyone involved in this garbage be haunted by Ira Levin and Ruth Gordon--in curlers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like A Diuretic Working Its Way Through Your System, Darlings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is actually a practical reason why NBC waited four nights before airing its second part of "Rosemary's Baby." That was to get those who sat through Part One a chance to get its awfulness out of their system, so they could handle more?

I mean, look at this photo?  Does anything look more staged, like a publicity still?  I am telling you, looking at this shot alone, my father could easily have taken my childhood vacation photos and become a commercial photographer.

Zoe looks like she is going through a Hatha Yoga class. The others look like they are doing some form of Pilates.  And this is supposed to be about childbirth?????????  Come on!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With the one interesting thing--the Nina-Jacques situation--how can they ruin it now?  If Julie is the Hutch character, you had better start behaving like such.  Rosemary better start making discoveries.  And I am pissed--no Dr. Sapirstein, no Dr. Hill.  How will it all end? Will she get plain, Lipton's tea, afterward?  Will Guy get a comeuppance?  Will he fall out a window?

Most of all, will the ghost of Ira Levin float across the screen, stating clearly, "I do not endorse this?"  I hope so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank God I have tomorrow off!  A whole day to recover from the  awfulness of tonight's presentation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sometimes, Even The Famous Can Be Bitchy, Darlings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alec Baldwin is almost the male Lindsay Lohan, in today's media terms.  Seems like he is  always up to something, so, when he was recently hauled in by the NYPD for riding a bike the wrong way in the Flatiron District, I knew he was overdue for the Raving Queen Bitch Of The Week Award!!!!!!!!!

"You know who I am?" he shouts out, resorting to the level of Reese Witherspoon and Diana Ross.  Except Diana could still get out there, if she wanted, and do "Love Child."  Mr. Baldwin, who has morphed from a one-time hunk into a chubbo character actor of middle age, is now determined to get out of the business, and go into politics.  Well, Alec, stuff like this might drive you from the biz, but who is going to take you seriously, politically speaking???????????

Are you dumb, or you just can't keep your mouth shut???????  Whatever, it rankled enough to earn for you the designation of Bitch Of The Week!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When will you learn, Alec, it is not all about you?????????????????

Right now, it is all about Jessie Mueller winning the TONY Award!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Favorite Super-Hero Costumes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With just two days to go until Gojira, one of my heroes, hiss movie theaters, I began thinking of super-heroes I always wanted to be, over the years.  Though, being the Raving Queen, darlings, for me it was never about strength or power, but how colorful the actual costume was.

It seems I almost always favored red.  And a cape!

Let's begin with Starman, who appeared for the first time, I believe, in Adventure Comics, sometime in 1941!!!!!!!!  Just look at all that red, yellow and green!  I think the green cape also has a yellow star on the back, because design is so important. And, although, he flies, he carries a magic rod with him. Starman was the earliest super-hero I ever wanted to be, though he was not the first.  Though red is important there, too!!!!!!!!!!!!

That distinction would belong to The Flash, of the Sixties, seen below. I could not resist that costume, nor could I resist the idea of having super speed.  I liked running up to a point, but never became quite proficient at it.  If I had, I would have thought about wearing a Flash Costume. I do wear a Flash T shirt on Summer holidays!!!!!!!!!  Who could resist it????????????  And that lightning symbolism.  That was to figure in other costumes later, although the color scheme went from red to blue!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How I wanted to be Garth Ranz, aka Lightning Lad, of the Legion Of Super-Heroes.  Our hair color had a basic similarity, but he had this stunning blue costume, with lightning bolts on the front. And a blue cape, to match. His power was he could send forth electric bolts that would help.  He hailed from the world of Winath, and he had a twin sister, Ayla, who, when first in the Legion was known as Lightning Lass, but an accident rendered her power to shrinkage, whereby, with some minor costume adjustments, she became Light Lass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I think if I had my choice, the Flash and Lightning Lad would be my favorites!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But wait, there was also Doctor Fate!  First, I loved having the title Doctor! Pity I never finished by PH.D. because, darlings, it would be Dr. This and Dr. That!  I loved the blue and yellow combo on Doctor Fate's costume, his metal arm bands, and, of  course the yellow cape.  He belonged to the Justice Society of America on Earth Two--who I thought were more interesting-- and he was designated the Master Of Magic, so he could shoot bolts from his head, but they would do anything he wished--not just act electronically, as with Lightning Lad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where is such fashion today?  The super-heroes today look like over worked out gym rats, with dull costumes, and even duller power and personas.  Give me the old days of these guys, when it was something to actually be a Super-Hero!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Remember, this is the type of hero that inspired Michael Chabon to  write 'Kavalier And Clay.'  Not Astro Boy, I can tell you that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Watch me whiz through space, dolls!  If I do, you will get a full report!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
