We Have A New Reader, Girls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Only 11 days into the year, darlings, and the reader indicator is at 135.  Our new reader is named Doc D.  Doc could be male, female, or trans; whatever, welcome to this page, and this blog.  I hope you find it entertaining and informative.

It should be helpful in keeping you up with the social whirl that is New York City.  No clinical stuff on here, except regarding psychopathologies, all interlaced with campy humor.  Reading this blog goes great with coffee.

So, everyone, let us welcome Doc D to this blog, wishing him many hours of information and entertainment.  Feel free to drop in anytime with comments.

But before leaving, it is time to welcome Doc D with this blog's unofficial theme.

That's right, girls.  Deborah Harry singing "Call Me."

Welcome to this blog, Doc D.

As Long As We Are Talking Beauty, Darlings, How About One Of Hollywood's Most Underrated Beautiful Women--Maureen O' Sullivan??????????????????

Isn't she just stunning, girls????????  What passes for such today???????????

Now she is known as "Mia Farrow's mom," but in her day, Maureen O'Sullivan was a stunning beauty, and an actress whose brilliance matched that beauty.  Just look at her work as Kitty in 1935's "Anna Karenina," or that same year's "David Copperfield," where she played Dora.  Her talent was not limited to period films, as shown by her work in such more contemporary films as the horror picture, "The Devil Doll," in 1936, and 1948's thriller, "The Big Clock."

And did you know she was the front runner for Melanie in "Gone With The Wind," until Olivia De Havilland convinced Jack Warner to let her go over to the Selznick studio, and test for the part.  The rest is history!!!!!!!!!!!!

Later, she tried the stage, and I was fortunate enough to have seen her on Broadway in 1980's "Morning's At Seven."  If only she had worked more, but she was lucky in the output she did, having to raise seven children.

Was there anything Maureen couldn't do???????????  I doubt it.

Hey, Film Forum, are you listening?  Why not have a Maureen O'Sullivan festival?

Her stunning beauty and work have gone too long underappreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Girls How About Some Pink Tea Roses????????????????????????

With Valentine's Day, just around the corner, what could be more perfect?  I would have a vase or two of these in every room in my apartment to romanticize and glamourize the look.  Why else should such beauty exist????????????

Here is some beauty to take us out of the SAD.  Even just looking at this picture is calming and comforting enough.

Engulf yourselves in tea roses, dears, and feel you are entering a romantic dream that never ends.

Not like Mr. Lockwood's dream in "Wuthering Heights.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Let's Get A Little Beauty In Here To Combat The Post Holiday Doldrums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Darlings, today happens to be David's and my wedding anniversary.  Though we have been together for 15 years, come May, today we have been married for eight.

The best eight and fifteen years of my life.  And may they continue.

Tonight, we are going to our favorite neighborhood Italian restaurant, Peppino's and then a quiet evening.  What could be simpler???????????????

Simplicity is best when there is love!

For those who want it, go and find it, darlings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Guess What Cinematic Masterwork Turns 50 This Year???????????????????

That's right, darlings, Robert Altman's "Nashville," which I consider to be the "Citizen Kane" of our generation, hit the 50 year mark this year.

I remember when it first came out, and the impact that it had.  Oh, my God, Ronee Blakley as Barbara Jean!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  How I wanted to be her!!!!!!!!!!!!!  And my then best friend, Doug, wanted to be Shelley Duvall as L.A. Joan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would still like to be Barbara Jean, come to think of it.  I do sing.

Most of all I want "Nashville" to have a special anniversary screening this year.  David and I saw it several years back at the Film Forum, and I was so beguiled I went back several days later to take in another screening by myself.

So, here is to "Nashville" at 50.  And to its stars, alive and dead.

As Barbara Jean says, "......if you're down by the river, I hope you drop in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Darlings, You Simply Will Not Believe It!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "Doctor Zhivago" Turns 60 This Year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On the very last day of 1965--December 31--"Doctor Zhivago" was released, and the world has never been the same since.

Oh, my God, this was the movie that made us swoon, with Maurice Jarre's lush, romantic score.  It made us all want to look like Julie Christie--I mean, who wouldn't? --and on cold days I still bundle up to my eyes to get that distinctive, enigmatic look, when Julie as Lara is first seen on the screen.

The poetry of a snow-covered estate, Klaus Kinski on the train ride, the mother carrying the dead child--these are just some of the film's most impressive sequences.

I would like to see this film on screen this year, and prays it gets a showing.

May there always be "blossoms in green and gold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Girls, "Svengoolie" Isn't Ringing In The New Year, With The Best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As I sometimes say on these posts, if you have already seen this film, there is no need to see it again.  If you have never seen it, then it is worth a look.

I promised David the next time "Svengoolie" showed a film we did not want to see we would watch the 1948 film version of "Anna Karenina," starring the great Vivien Leigh, decked out in Cecil Beaton costumes.  So, that is what we will be looking at tonight.

But really.  After ending the year last week, with the camp gem, "Blood Of Dracula," one would think "Svengoolie" would reach for the gold to start the year.  Alas, no.

So, tune in, if so inclined.  Hopefully, Nostalgiaferatu will be there.

As for me, I cannot wait to see Vivien in those Cecil Beaton gowns!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
