The Heights Players Really Hit The Heights, With Their Production Of "Pippin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I have to admit, darlings, I was delightfully surprised.  Last Spring, when this group did 'How To Succeed,' I was so appalled at the inadequacy of the production.  So, when I heard they were going to do "Pippin," I was surprised.  Could such a challenge be met?  I admit I went into the theater with trepidation.  However--

When Sofia Faus as the Leading Player stepped out, and the company assembled to perform "Magic To Do," a classic musical theater opener, I knew we were in good hands, with the right concept, and dancers and voices to match.

Joe Marx was a perfect Pippin; his projection of innocence matched his vocal projection on a classic like "Corner Of The Sky."  Luisa Boyaggi, who played Joanne in The Heights' production of "Company," stopped the show again here, as Berthe/Grandma, with her big number, the sing-along "No Time At All!"

Praise must go to Alicia Kerr, the choreographer, who really did her homework in studying Bob Fosse, because all the dancers moved with such Fosse-esquee motions, it was obvious they had been working hard at this.  And "Pippin" is a show that demands hard work.

Extra credit goes to Hilary Goldman, the director who put the whole together.  This show was helmed by someone who clearly understood the property and had a solid concept for how to stage it at The Heights.

I had forgotten how good a show "Pippin" is.  What a delightful reminder.  Kudos to all involved.

This is the last weekend it runs, so, darlings, HURRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
