Not since Gladys Cooper livened up "The Song Of Bernadette" with her portrayal of Sister Marie Therese Vazous, the archetypal Catholic nun, has there been a Gladys to rival she, until Amy Madigan came along with her inspired portrayal of Aunt Gladys in last year's horror hit, "Weapons."
When I first saw the film I thought Aunt Gladys was a man in drag. But there was something familiar about those eyes. Imagine my shock, reading the end credits, to discover this character was played by.........Amy Madigan!!!!!!!!!!!!
I recall Amy's sizzling performance in 1985's family drama, "Twice In A Lifetime." She deservedly earened an Oscar nod for that one. Aunt Gladys is in a league and a world by herself, and I cannot wait to find out more about Aunt Gladys. I wish she would come and visits me!!!!!!!!!!!!
Her look is going to be the next fashion statement. Just ask ANNA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The moment I realized it was Amy, I fervently hoped she would get an Oscar nomination, and I would love to see her win the Oscar.
But thankfully the Academy recognized her brilliance as Aunt Gladys!!!!!!!!!!!!!
