Tonight, darlings, marks the premiere of the Tenth season of "American Horror Story." Can you believe it has been a decade? Subtitled "Double Feature," it is just that--two separate stories. Opening tonight is "Red Tide," set by the water. It has all the AHS veterans--Lily Rabe, Finn Witrock, Frances Conroy, (!!!!!) Sarah Paulson, Leslie Grossman, Adina Porter, Billie Lourd, Angelica Ross, and Denis O'Hare. Plus a newcomer to the rep company--Macaulay Culkin!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot wait to see what he will do!!!!!!!!!!
The opening episode is entitled "Cape Fear," after the 1962 film classic with Robert Mitchum and Polly Bergen! Forget that 1991 remake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Girls, just think! There will be so much to talk about, in the next couple of days. I look forward to sharing it all with you.
Be sure not to miss out on the ghoulish fun, darlings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I never saw “Cape Fear” but I did read the novel it was based on.
Victoria,
I did not know it was based on a novel.
The 1962 film is terrific.
It was atmospheric, for sure: I haven't seen a beautiful tourist town made to look so desolate and eerie in off season since Julie Christie mournfully rode the prow of a gondola thru the Venice canals in 1973's "Don't Look Now". Filming took place last March, which might be the only time in P-town history its ever been so deserted.
Frances Conroy is a total hoot, as expected, but I'm not thrilled with AHS doing another vampire story line after Ryan Murphy already broke his vow of "no vampires, no zombies, ever" with "Hotel". But we'll see: if the two consecutive storylines tie in together as the promo poster hints, it may veer off into some hilarious conspiracy of the Roswell alien crash being the source of the mysterious black pills (which would explain a LOT of strangeness emanating from Hollywood and Broadway in recent years).
Lily's daughter is shaping up to be the Rhoda Penmark of the piece, and God knows how Rabe's pregnancy will fit in. I'm going to guess now the last shot of the season is a little baby vampire alien hybrid, and Rabe will somehow die horribly during delivery.
BTW, my apologies for hyping the "American Horror Stories" spinoff series to you: I was under the impression it aired on FX cable prior to AHS proper, but it actually just finished its run exclusively on the "FX ON Hulu" streaming service. So it wouldn't have been available when you checked cable On Demand. Annoying, considering what we pay for cable: what is the point of cheating FX cable subscribers out of an FX series? I'll find some other way for you to access it...
Yup the book was called “The Executioners” by John MacDonald.
The first movie stayed much truer to the novel, I read.
Victoria,
I would love to get my hands on
a copy of that book, because I loved
the original "Cape Fear."
