Long before there was slime, darlings, boomers out there remember all sorts of messy toys, from Silly Putty to Crazy Foam. I can remember a friend and I playing "patty cake" with the latter. We were fine, until one of us missed, and got it over our shirts. I don't know what came over us, but we rubbed Crazy Foam over the sofa, walls, and even the television. Our mothers both had a fit.
Though it was nothing compared to how my friend's mother treated me during our last two years of high school. But that is for another time.
The phrase "Guk is Guk" was used in ads on TV. I never owned Guk--I think my parents were wise on that one. But the slogan just popped into my head the other day, and I wondered if it is still around.
Could the man who created 1958's "The Blob" have had something to do with it???????????????

hmm my kids & grandkids certainly had various slime-type substances, however I don’t remember any from MY childhood.
We must have at least silly putty at some point.
A neighbor had “silly string” in a pressurized can, that was a godawful mess.
Oh maybe “super elastic bubble plastic”!!
I can still remember the strong smell.
Victoria, I remember those, too, but never owned them.
