That is the latest news from downtown, darlings, because not only is this seamlessly perfect 1999 film being musicalized, it is set to perform at one of the most prestigious places in this city--The Public. Why????????????????????
The 1999 film had an A-list cast--Winona Ryder, Angelina Jolie, (who won an Oscar for her performance as Lisa) Brittany Murphy, Whoopie Goldberg, Mary Kay Place, and others. How can such a cast be assembled for the stage???????????????
And adding musical numbers???????? To a story about mental illness????????? I sat through this film several times, and never once did I visualize it as a musical. Which is a good indication that it should not be.
It is set to open May 2026. I hope they don't get the Newman, which you will understand why in the next post.
But "Girl Interrupted " as a musical??????????????????

I meant to tell you, I am SO glad you went up on that stage and did your DONNA pose!!!
Victoria, When I realized where I was, I could not NOT do the Donna pose. No matter what anyone thought. Have you ever seen "Girl, Interrupted?" It is a great film, a wonderful cast, but it does not cry out to be musicalized. I don't
think it will work, but I would like to see it out of curiosity.
