"They all meow about the ups and downs of all their friends.
The who, the how, the why--they dish the dirt, it never ends."
--"Girl Talk," by Neal Hefti
"Romper Room, " darlings, was the "Sesame Street" of the Baby Boomer Generation. It was always hosted by some spinster pushing thirty--named Miss This, or Miss That, but more like Miss Thing--whom I could just tell, from the eyes, hated the job, and was eager to ditch these kids for her own, a high income hubby, and a house in the suburbs. This was still the era of 'How To Succeed.'
Over on Channel 9, Virginia Graham, an iconic American, if there ever was one, hosted a show called "Girl Talk," and let me tell you, this is where I learned a lot. About the importance of how to dress, have coffee, socialize; skills that have brought me to a point much farther than balancing a plastic basket on your head would have.
Now, the song, "Girl Talk," which I always took to be the theme of the show--it certainly fits!!!!--was actually written by Neal Hefti, for the 1965 film, "Harlow," the one starring Carroll Baker, as opposed to Carol Lynley!!!!!!!!!
I couldn't leave you, without allowing you to hear the song! It should have become the show's theme, because it was recorded when "Girl Talk" was still broadcast! Anyway, here is the great voice of Tony Bennett, singing the song that will become the theme when I do MY TV show!
Love you all, darlings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
