Fantine Is Going To The Oscars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, darlings, I have no plans, as yet to attend the ceremonies. What I am celebrating this morning is the nomination of Anne Hathaway for her award-calibre performance as Fantine in the film version of the musical, "Les Miserables."

Anne is nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Supporting Actress category, and, as far as I am concerned, she is my choice to win. However, she has strong competition from Any Adams (on her fourth nomination) and Helen Hunt, (who already won as Oscar, one she did not deserve, and is trying to jump start her acting career, again!!!!!!!) so I am perfectly prepared for the result that she may not win.  Look at "Brokeback Mountain" for Best Picture, and Jake Gyllenhaal, for his performance!!!!!!!!
Nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But right now it is thrilling to see Anne among this year's Oscar nominees, and for a role that makes such an indelible impression.  But it all seems a bit rushed, doesn't it?????  I can remember when the nominations were not announced, until maybe the middle or end of February.  The awards,. for many years, were sometime in April, then suddenly switched back to March,  and now, who knows??????
For all I know, at this point, they could be next week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will be right there, in front of my TV set, cheering Anne on!!!!!!!!!  And, girls, you have GOT to get out there and see her do Fantine, so you can see what all the fuss is about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And Anne here makes history, of a sort.  "Les Miserables" is one of the most filmed of stories, and, over the years, Fantine has been played a gallery of distinguished actresses, including Florence Eldridge, and Sylvia Sydney!!!!!!!!!!!!  But Anne is the first to land an Oscar nomination for the role!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations, Anne!!!!!!!!!!!!! As an ex-Jerseyite, and frequent habitue of the Paper Mill Playhouse, in Milburn, New Jersey, I salute you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
