That is right; today is the day, back in 1967, when Billy Joe McCallister jumped off the Tallahatchie bridge. No one has ever defined why in 58 years, but I think it was because the narrator was pregnant by Billy Joe, and she either had an abortion or a miscarriage.
In any case, darlings, this is the day to remember that event, and an excuse to listen to the Bobbie Gentry classic. One of the great hits of all time, though I also enjoy her rendition of "Fancy." I relate to "Fancy," which, I am sure, is no surprise to my readers.
Yes, girls it is the third of June, so do anything you want to celebrate. Just don't go leaping off any bridges. Too many tragedies have happened that way, which shouldn't. Even Billy Jo.

Victoria, I have never leapt from a bridge, nor do I plan to, but I would guess our age group is the only one who remembers this day associated with the song.
