Guess Who Is 75 This Year, Darlings??????????????????????

My sister turned 75, at the end of last month, but I had no idea she and The Flash were the same age. Or close to it, anyway.  Because I was introduced to him during the early Sixties of my childhood, I kind of feel he dates from this period, when actually, he made his debut in Flash Comics, No. 1, back in January 1940.  Then, he was known as Jay Garrick, and sported that blue Mercury winged hat, red shirt with lightning bolt, blue pants, and yellow wing tipped shoes.  He was of Earth Two, and an active member of the Justice Society of America, comprised of a group of heroes who flourished during the Golden Age Of Comics.

The Flash whom I came to know, during the Silver Age Of Comics, was named Barry Allen.  He was a scientist who was dating a woman named Iris West, and one day, while showing and explaining to Iris' nephew, Wally, the accident that gave him his powers, Wally experienced the same mishap, which turned him into Kid Flash. This was back in 1959. The Flash's costume in this period was very much like the one above, save for the body being more flat and less muscular. But the color combination of red and yellow in the costume caught my eye, which, of all the super-heroes,The Flash was the one I most wanted to be.  That costume, and that speed--wow!

The runners-up were Starman--all that red, and that green cape, Doctor Fate--all those lightning bolts, yellow and blue combo costume, and cape, and Mr. Terrific, for the same reasons. It was always about the costume. And let's not forget Lightning Lad of the Legion Of Super-Heroes.

The Barry Allen Flash, and his successor, Wally West, who grew from Kid Flash to the current one, seen above, resided on Earth One, and are active members of The Justice League Of America!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy Birthday to The Flash, in your Jubilee/Diamond Year!!!!!!!!!!  If there was a runners group where you could wear Flash costumes, I would join it in a minute.

Especially if Darren Kavinoky was the mentor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
