Girls,You Cannot Imagine Such Trash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Darlings, several postings back, you may recall my having referenced a movie called "Change Of Habit."  This was a 1969 movie, where Mary Tyler Moore played a nun, and--get this, loves!!!!!!--Elvis Presley played a doctor!!!!!!!!!!!  Yes, an MD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  This is one film I have GOT to see!!!!!!!!   It makes Debbie Reynolds' film, "The Singing Nun" seem like Audrey Hepburn in "The Nun's Story."  My only question is, Where the hell was Shelley Fabares?????????

Poor Mary! She scored REALLY big as Laura Petrie, but then came some lean years, where she did some REAL trash (salvaged only by her brilliant turn as Miss Dorothy--my role model, girls!!!!!!--in "Thoroughly Modern Millie!!!!!"), before coming into her own with Mary Richards and then that ultimate suburban WASP Bitch, Beth Jarrett, in "Ordinary People."  Till, then, she was pretty much the biggest industry joke, until Jessica Lange showed up in the !976 Dino De Laurentis "King Kong."

Another of Mary's "trash movies" I have always wanted to see is "What' So Bad About Feeling Good?"  For a piece of garbage, it has a pretty impressive cast--Mary, George Peppard, Susan Saint James, Dome De Luise (guess they must have tried to cast every three named actor in Hollywood--wonder why they couldn't get Charles Nelson Reilly???? Maybe he was smart, and read the script!!!!!!!!!)--and was, get this, directed by Golden Ager George Seaton who directed "Miracle On 34th Street" and wrote the screenplay for what film, darlings???????  That is right--"THE SONG OF BERNADETTE!" Together with Vincent McHugh and Robert Pirosh, he had a hand in writing the script.  Can you believe it, girls?????????  From a screen masterpiece like 'Bernadette,' to THIS????????  Only in Hollywood, as they say!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The film is also noted for being the last film performance of the great comic actress, Thelma Ritter. Though, in the hereafter, I am not sure if Thelma is too happy about that!!!!!!!!

And what is this film about????????  Are you ready???????  It is about a group of New Yorkers, who are infected by a virus that sweeps through the city. But before you start creating all kinds of social metaphors, dolls, save your breath.  Remember, the title of the film. The type of virus that spreads is a "Happiness Virus"!!!!!!!  That is right!  Everyone--as personified by the cast--in Manhattan is infected with Happiness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Considering how long I have lived in New York, it is almost worth it to see!!!!!!  Could you imagine if this happened for REAL??????  We would be quarantined by the rest of the country, due to insanity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't you just love Mary in her hippie garb!???????  Honey, she never would have been cast in "HAIR!!!!!!!"  At this career point, she was too SQUARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

However, even as I write this, a little voice is buzzing in the back of my head, saying two words--"Broadway musical!"  I could see this kind of idiocy being turned into one; or at least someone trying to. For all I know, someone may be at work on it, right now!!!!!!! Who knows, it might be another "Golden Rainbow???????"

But, until that time, I will wait till I see this trash classic!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like the song says, Mary made it, after all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
