Fifty Years Ago Tonight, Barbra Streisand Became A Star!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Miss Streisand, as she was then known, had been kicking around the New York theater scene, for several years, ever since her graduation from Erasmus Hall High School In Brooklyn.  But that stopped on this very date, 50 years ago, back in 1964, when, at the Winter Garden, opened a brand new show, called "Funny Girl."  Things were never the same.

Miss Streisand, from then on, became BARBRA!!!!!!!!!!!  The burgeoning gay community--of which I was one--had an icon, a role model, someone they wanted to become!  And still do! I am waiting to do my revival of "Funny Girl," and I just might do it tonight, at home!

If there were Holy Days Of Obligation for Theater Queens, this would be one of them!  I know a lot of Theater Queens are going to be blaring the Styne-Merrill score this evening, some dressing in drag as BARBRA, others fondly recalling the Dawning Of The Age....Of BARBRA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hell, I might even do a rendition of "My Man."  Or "The Music That Makes Me Dance!"
Or both!

So, happy 50th Anniversary, "Funny Girl!"  For now, and "foreeeeeeeeeeeeeeevvvvvvvvverrrrrrrrrrrrrrr MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
