As incongruous and impossible as it may seem, today Julie Andrews reaches the age of 80. For my generation, she is forever frozen in time as either Mary Poppins or Maria Von Trapp. How can someone like Julie Andrews be old? She always embodied youth, and all its promise.
Alas, Time marches on. And though Miss Andrews no longer has the soaring voice she did fifty years ago, what she did with in it in the time it was there will remain her eternal legacy. Just as my wanting to be Heather Menziies and Angela Cartwright, at that time, will be mine.
Everyone has their favorite Andrews musical moment. For me, it was always when she hit the final note on "I Could Have Danced All Night," from the Cast Recording of "My Fair Lady." Seconded only by "The Lusty Month Of May," from "Camelot."
And here is Julie, at her most iconic!
Happy 80th, Jules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
