He was actually in some classics--1957's "Sweet Smell Of Success," and 1958's "Marjorie Morningstar" among others. Then, of course, there was his television fame on "Route 66" and "Adam 12." But for those of us in the know, Martin Milner will always be Mel, husband to Neely 0'Hara, played indelibly by Patty Duke, in the 1967 camp classic, "Valley Of The Dolls.
He was the recipient of one of Patty's most famous lines in the film--"Ted Casablanca's not a fag! And I'm the dame, who can prove it!" It was he who called Casablanca a fag to begin with!
Hard to believe Martin is now gone, having left us on September 6, at the age of 83! There should be "Valley Of The Dolls" screenings alone, in his honor! Anything for a camp gathering to watch this film, darlings!!!!!!!!!!!
Rest In Peace, Martin Milner! There was more to you than many knew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
